I learned to write in what I would call a traditional way: classroom assignments. Grade school and high school offered me limited writing experiences. Although we wrote many papers, more often than not, we were on our own going through the drafting and reviewing steps. However, once in college, my writing skills increased since we were forced to hand in drafts and there were specific days dedicated to peer reviewing.
Despite being forced to follow the writing process, I’m still not very confident in my writing skills – especially when the topic is of zero interest to me. When the topic is interesting, I have no problem spitting out a first draft. On the contrary, I struggle to write on a topic of no interest and I usually end up feeling like my draft is very basic and has no sense of myself in it.
